Since joining the CBH Team in 2024, Ben has worked hard to strengthen the community of bioinformatics trainees and professionals in Atlantic Canada. Ben has a Master of Science degree in Microbiology and Immunology, completing his bioinformatics training under Dr. Morgan Langille at Dalhousie University. Ben is a Carpentries Certified Instructor and has designed and delivered courses in microbiome science, programming languages and research data management. He is passionate about continued education of trainees and professionals who will champion Canada’s future as a leader in healthcare and enable access to precision medicine.

With the help of Dr. Rob Beiko and collaborators, Ben established the Bioinformatics Atlantic Network (BAtl) community in 2025. Ben has also spearheaded innovative CBH initiatives, including the Trainee Spotlight series celebrating the diverse career paths of bioinformatics trainees in Canada. Currently, he is a core member of the communications and website development teams, as well as the Bioinformatics User Group (BUG) support network.
